"With a heavy heart, we would like to inform you that after 55 years of serving our community, we have made the ultimate decision to close our doors by the end of this month. We would like to take this time to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the many years of business, the relationships we have built, the support you have given us, and most of all for allowing us to serve you," the Georgallis family said in a statement, adding that they were "forever grateful" to their customers.
Opened in 1964, the diner on W. St Georges Avenue is famous for its beef stew as well as for its involvement with the community, hosting breakfasts with Santa and charity toy drives. The diner underwent a major renovation last year.
Patrons spoke fondly of the restaurant, where long-married couples remember it as the place where they had their first date, or, for regulars, as the breakfast stop on their way to work.
"This is truly heartbreaking. Wishing you all the best and thanks for the memories," one patron said.
